Great restaurant! We now have fresh Chinese in Lakeview! We love the egg rolls and spring rolls! Try the crispy shrimp! So lightly fried in rice flour and not greasy at all! Yum! The portions of friend rice are tremendous! So, you will want to share or get ready to eat if for 3 days straight! Haha! Good wine list! Great service! One of the owners, Ming, is particularly nice, and will go out of his way to make sure you have a fantastic meal! He answers all menu questions and offers suggestions too! It's one of our newest takeout go-to places! And we like dining in too!

I learned recently that there are more Chinese restaurants in the U.S. than McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Domino's and Pizza Hut, combined. Then why is it so hard to find good Chinese food in New Orleans? Did you know that New Orleans used to have a Chinatown? It used to be where the Tulane Med Center is. Then when THE MAN™ demolished that, they tried to rebuild right on Bourbon St.: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch… Again, why is it so hard to find good Chinese food in New Orleans? Some things can never be explained. Ming's was a pleasant surprise to find in Lakeview. The lunch special's a steal. The cho cho, recommended by many Yelpers, a meat-filled fried wonton, is definitely worth getting as your side. Tasty spices (clove? cinnamon?). The General Tso's was good - the best cooked-chicken I've had in the dish in New Orleans (tender and juicy), although not as spicy as I like it, so asking for chile sauce is a must (or maybe next time I'll order it spicier). The Ma Po Tofu was the best I've had in New Orleans, too. Great Szechuan peppercorn flavor, and nice and spicy, although I've definitely had spicier in other Szechuan restaurants. The server seemed to forget just about everything we asked for. But we got it eventually. Slightly more attentive service and I might bump this to 5, but only for New Orleans Chinese, which is a cut below most cities (keeping in mind we're a cut above most cities on just about every other front...).

I'm still kind of conflicted over this restaurant. I work nearby, and quite often, their parking lot is full. The interior is clean, the wait staff is friendly enough. I came for an early dinner, and am still feeling kind of underwhelmed. The dinner was hot, fresh and lightly seasoned/sauced. The noodles were HARD and crispy. They did soften up from the beef and vegetables. I was afraid to eat too much of the noodles, as I have braces, and have developed an odd relationship with noodles. The portions are quite large, and enough for leftovers, which after time, the noodles do seem to be much better given time. For desert, they serve ice cream from Creole Creamery. I had vanilla bean, and it was awesome. The bill arrived promptly, and was able to finish paying before desert was done (YAY!). Everything about this restaurant, in my opinion, is completely just ok.

Great food and service! Definitely the best option for Chinese food anywhere near Lakeview.

Delicious! Our first time! The egg drop soup and crab Rangoon were great appetizers! Chicken and shrimp lettuce wrap were well seasoned. Had sweet and sour chicken, all white meat sauce comes on the side. Fresh tasting with friendly service!

(If you don't want to read the rest of the review, that's fine. Just get the Honey Walnut Shrimp and send me a thank you note.) With fresh ingredients elegantly prepared, Mings is a new gem in Lakeview that specializes in Cantonese dishes and classic Chinese American fare. Too often, Chinese restaurants over season and sauce to cover up for low-quality ingredients. This is not a problem at Mings, which lets the ingredients take center stage by cooking them perfectly. Prices are reasonable and portions large, best consumed family style. On to the dishes. Hot and Sour Soup: The best I've ever had. The broth was flavorful, made from rich homemade stock. It was topped with seared meat and fluffy tofu. Served with those little crispy strips. So good. Pot stickers: The filling was flavorful and well seasoned. They could have been a touch darker. I like my stickers nearly burnt. Shrimp Toast: So, So good. This is a dish that often features insultingly low quantities of shrimp. Not so at Mings. Get it. The hot mustard is made in house and might cure cancer. Honey Walnut Shrimp: This is the best dish I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant. Large, perfectly cooked shrimp in a subtly sweet sauce. Unbelievably good. Bird's nest seafood: A bowl full of expertly cooked, fresh seafood and veggies in a bowl made of fried potatoes. What's not to like? Peking Duck: Some of the best Peking duck I've ever head. You have to call in the order the day before, but it's well worth it. Get it. XO Beef: This was the only disappointing dish that we had. If you like XO beef, ask for some chili oil to go with it. Overall, this is a great place. The dining room is quiet, with a clean, modern decor. The wine list is great. I will be coming back, often. If I go a couple more times and it continues to impress, I'll upgrade the rating to 5 stars. I don't give anyone five stars. Ming's is that good. Go here.

Ming's is the best Chinese Food in New Orleans! The restaurant is so clean and modern. The wait staff is very friendly and professional. The vegetables they use in their dishes are so fresh and delicious. No other Chinese restaurant in New Orleans serves Chinese food with such excellent ingredients and quality! If you are looking for fabulous Chinese Food, Fantastic service then go to Ming's.

I highly recommend the Honey Walnut shrimp. They don't have too many tables but the decor is nice and clean.

Very clean restaurant with a friendly wait staff. Food was incredible. I've found my new Chinese restaurant and have to break up with China Rose now. Huge portions and very tasty food. It would seal the deal for me if they delivered! A+

Came here with a work group. The hot & sour soup was great! Then had the moo goo gai pan. The food had a good flavor and the vegetables were fresh! Great place to bring a date or some friends. I will for sure try it again.

I have been driving past this place for months patiently waiting for it to open. Ming's is not your traditional Chinese restaurant. It has a very calm and pleasing aesthetic. We did not feel like we were being rushed at any time. We had a hard time picking from the menu so we just ordered a bunch of appetizer's and one main dish. Our food was wonderful and we truly enjoyed our meal. The staff was very attentive and always offered to refill our drinks. We got a chance to meet the owner and he told us about his family history in the local Chinese restaurant community. I plan to revisit Ming's and taste more of his dishes from his menu.

One of the best Chinese places to eat!! A must to try is the crab Rangoon, egg rolls and combination (house fried) rice. Dear god I am hook like a fish!

Don't forget to order the Cho Chos.

Ummm....best General Tso's chicken I ever had. The shrimp fried rice and egg drop soup were delicious also. I tried the cashew chicken, pepper steak and sesame chicken which were great, but the Tso's chicken was AMAZING! This is my new favorite restaurant and I can't wait to try the chef's specials. Portions are large, and staff was quick and friendly.

Have continued to eat here once or twice a week and have not been disappointed! Our entire office staff has been twice. It's unanimous that it is hands down the best Chinese in town. We love it! Crab rangoons, cho cho, egg drop soup, shrimp Kew, moo goo gai pan and general's chicken are among our favorites, although no one has had anything they didn't like yet. (And there are 9 of us!) staff is very efficient, friendly and accommodating to our large parties. If I had to make one suggestion, it would be to expand the wine list....a must do for Lakeview!!! Enjoy.

Couldn't be happier this new Chinese restaurant opened in Lakeview. Saves me a lot of driving across the river for good food. They have been open for just a few weeks and we have already been here five or six times. The only drawback is they need more seating. They get crowded at lunchtime. The crab Rangoon is excellent. The fried rice is perfection. The egg drop soup is one of the best I have ever had. Tried a few of the menu items so far and all have been very good. If you are looking for good Chinese, this is the spot.

A surprisingly good Chinese restaurant with an atypical (in a good way) uptown-style feel to it. The menu is refreshingly different without being uncomfortable or forced. Make sure to try to the Honey Walnut Shrimp. Great service, nothing bad to say!

Ate once and the food was OK. Went second time and ended up walking out due to the rude tall Asian guy.

We have eaten at Ming's twice with good results. This past weekend we picked up pork fried rice and one dinner to share. Both dishes had very little flavor and we had to 'doctor' them up. Will give it one more chance, there are other Chinese rest. in the area to put up with just o k food.

Absolutely the best, freshest, Chinese food ever! The restaurant is very attractive, nice lighting and good Feng Shui. Can't wait til the weather is warmer and we can eat on the porch. The service was excellent, even by Nola standards.

I live very close to Ming's and was really hoping it would be good as I really want to have a good Chinese restaurant so close. I have been twice now, both times with other people so we could try each other's food, and it has not disappointed any of us. The lunch specials are generous portions for a great price. The meats are all of good quality (unlike many other Chinese restaurants), and they also have a wide selection for vegetarians (I'm not but one of my friends who came is). My favorites so far: the wonton soup, General Tso's chicken, and Green Pepper Beef. The staff is friendly and attentive. The place is very clean and pretty inside, and there are a few tables for outside dining. I'm SO GLAD to finally have a good Chinese restaurant nearby. I will definitely be a regular here!

Mings was a true delight compared to other Chinese Restaurants in that it was a clean place, The food was delicious and the and portions were a good size and the staff was very nice and attentive. I give Mings 5 out 5!!!!!!!!!!

I have been to Ming's several times and it has always been a great experience. The decor has a simple elegance, yet is very comfortable, with a neighborhood restaurant atmosphere. The front porch is wonderful for outdoor dining. The wait staff is friendly and very attentive. Above all, the food is top notch! I have tried many of the appetizers- the shrimp toast, potsickers and crab rangoon are a few favorites. The entrees have always impressed. The food is prepared with care and finesse. I will be a regular at Ming's!

  • Maura Z.

Ok basically this: Ming's has great food, very generous portions, and a nice modern intimate vibe. We love it We've eaten here or had takeout several times now, and every time its like we enjoy it more. You can really tell that they use high quality ingredients and its not just mass-produced food court Chinese. Try the Singapore Noodles (only if curry is your thing) and the Egg Foo Young!

    (5)
  • Felice H.

Service was decent, attentive and friendly. All three entrees (shrimp chow fan, Kung pao shrimp, and the chef special duck dish) were made using the same muddy brown sauce as a base. Only one entree had chili added to the brown base. The fried rice was tasteless. Shrimp toast appetizer was the highlight of the meal. There is nothing Chinese about this place. It looks like a quickly thrown together restaurant of no particular ethnicity. The server did not ask if I wanted chop sticks. :/ Will not return.

They seem to use fresh ingredients because this is the freshest Chinese food I've ever eaten. It's really delicious. It almost makes you feel guilt free to eat Chinese because the fresh ingredients make you feel like you're eating healthy. Since we found Ming's we only eat our Chinese from there. Our favorites are the honey walnut shrimp, bbq ribs, cho chos (thanks to the person that answered the phone to take my take-out order that recommended I try them for something different from egg rolls), and the green tea ice cream.

  • Elexa D.

One of the most mediocre Chinese restaurants I've ever been to. General Tso's chicken left much to be desired. Their unique hot & sour soup was meh. Don't waste your time.

Finally, a Chinese restaurant with fresh ingredients and not greasy. We ordered the cho cho, shrimp toast, large bowl egg drop soup and garlic pork. My family was so please to have Chinese food that is top notch quality.

Went back again...maybe they were having an off day, but I was not as impressed as I was during my first few visits. The food, especially the fried rice, seemed very bland. I will update again upon my next trip, hopefully it is better

Yery good food. Service & prices good too. I had the Singapore Noodles & my hubby had the Garlic Pork. We also had the appetizer veggie spring rolls. Will be going back. :)

Ming's is pretty good. I thought for the price they gave you enough for two people to eat. I ordered take out here a couple of weeks ago and got a lunch special. I got the sweet and sour shrimp with the wontons and you can add soup for a $1.50 extra. The meal also comes with rice. The shrimp: I liked how they put the sauce on the side so you can decide how much sauce goes on the meal. The sauce however was just okay. It was not bad but it was a different kind of flavor. It had pineapples and i think onions in it. But the shrimp was fried and they were pretty big. I would say the kung pao shrimp is better! The hot and sour soup: Very flavorful. It is very spicy which i like. However, the soup was very thick, which I thought was weird. I have had better but for the price it was not bad. P.F. Chang's and even Hot Wok have better hot and sour soup. The egg drop soup at Ming's is really good also. The rice: I thought it was good. It had shrimp and pork in it. The wontons: You could choose from an egg roll, wontons, cho cho, and other items. I went with the wontons. I liked them. And they had a dipping sauce that went with it, which was pretty good. I would get the cho chos! They are soooo good. I would say this place was good overall and well deserving of four stars but not my favorite Chinese place. A lot of the dinner items looked good. I spent about $10. I would say the service for take out is good, and it did not take long only about 15 minutes. Im not sure how the service is for sit down but if you are looking for quick Chinese, I would recommend Ming's.

It looks a lot more like a New Orleans seafood joint than a Chinese joint from the outside. The food was alright but really heavy on the pork and light on the shrimp in the shrimp fried rice. I probably wouldn't make a special trip out here just to eat here and I would probably end up at one of the other restaurants in the area before eating here. Inside was nice and clean with attentive staff. The food at dinner might perhaps be better than the lunch experience I had as I just found my food on the bland side. If I lived in Lakeview I would probably stop in to eat here when I needed some Chinese and they do seem to have some decent lunch specials along with a lot of parking. It is very hard to tempt me in here though with Russel's Marina Grill and Two Tony's so VERY near.

Definitely a Chinese restaurant in New Orleans that you must try. On my most recent visit, my cousin and I ordered the shrimp toast and the War Shu Opp. The shrimp toast was not greasy and very flavorful. War Shu Opp is a unique Chinese dish. I loved the combination of duck and vegetables was great. Overall, both were very delicious. The service is great and Ming actually came to see how we were doing! I know that many people in New Orleans have a certain perception about Chinese food. Ming's will change your perception. Not only that, they will likely have your favorite Chinese dishes as well as new favorites! I'm ready to go back over and over so that I can try the entire menu!

This place is really good. I ordered the Mandarin chicken lunch combo. This is not your typical 70% batter 30% chicken. The batter is flavorful and the chicken was juicy. The fried rice had shrimp, ham AND chicken, which was a nice bonus. I liked the cho cho's that came with the lunch combo. They definitely use fresh ingredients. I also liked the egg drop soup; although I wish it was a little less thick. They have a nice selection of soups available. I'll definitely be back and will recommend.

This is probably the best place for Chinese in Metairie/Lake area. The decorations are nice. The service is good. The food is excellent. I had shrimps with walnuts, and it was the best I've had. I also tried my friend's Cantonese crawfish, and it was delicious. This will be my new regular Chinese restaurant.

I lived in China for a year, grew up in the gourmet ghetto of Chinese food in LA (Monterey Park), and assure you this is best Chinese you'll get without a trip to the West Coast. Service and portions are great. They didn't decorate the place with fake lanterns or stuff like that, but they don't do that in Shanghai or HK anymore either.

Great food and atmosphere. Big portions, impecable service. Pan fried pot stickers were the best I've ever had.

If not for an enthusiastic hostess/manager, this would have been a disaster. She was the lone bright spot during our visit last weekend. She told us that there was a short wait for a table, but we could sit at the bar until it was available. She whispered to us, "We have some lingerers." Which was kind of funny. We ordered a couple of drinks at the bar and eventually decided to just eat right there since several other couples had decided to do the same. The bartender was either very tired, drunk, or just plain old out-of-it. She seemed put off that we decided to have a drink at the bar before while we waited for our table. She gave us every impression that she was ready to call it a night. She was even less enthused when we told her we would be eating at the bar. We ordered Shrimp Toast, Peking Pork, and the Wonton Noodle Soup. Five minutes later we were served Crab Rangoon. I mentioned to the bartender that we ordered Shrimp Toast not Rangoon. She looked confused, then checked the register, and told us that she had made a mistake and that the Rangoons were better than the Shrimp Toast anyway. No offer to get us the dish we ordered. When our entrees were served I was confused. The Peking Pork looked exactly like Sweet & Sour Pork. Since our appetizer had been messed up, I asked the bartender if this was the Peking Pork I had ordered. She got pretty arrogant and printed the check to show me that she had rung up the right dish. Her righteous attitude was hilarious since she had just rang in the wrong app. Her personality changed at that point from tired/inebriated/ditzy to snotty. The Peking Pork was simply Sweet Sour Pork without the pineapples and with a little more heat. Since I hate Sweet and Sour anything, I didn't care for my dish. The bartender noticed that I wasn't eating my entree but made no offer to replace it. The Wonton Noodle Soup was average. Tons of noodles (like 90% of the bowl was noodles,) a couple of wontons, and a few scant strips of roasted pork all in a nondescript broth filled the bowl. The hostess/manager checked on us throughout the meal and, though things were not 100% right, we told her we were fine. In all the service was funny bad, the food was average, and the place felt like it needed a good cleaning. Not sure we'll return.

This is the best Chinese food that I've eaten in New Orleans, and is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the entire country. The ingredients are fresh, and the portions are generous. The service is very attentive and efficient, also.

Best Chinese in the city,The pot stickers were fantastic. The only negative is that the BBQ Ribs could have been cooked a lot more. They were busy on a Monday night and there was only one server. She did a fine job. Go for the fried rice and the Sweet and Sour Pork. Full Bar and great parking

It's rare that I can say this about a newly opened restaurant on my first visit, but Ming's was flawless. We had egg drop soup, steamed dumplings, chicken lettuce wraps, Mandarin chicken, and bok choy with black mushrooms, and every bite was terrific! And, the place was spotless. :)

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
